Rihani - Part of a Musical in Saudi Arabia


Fares Al-Tawheed (the Hero of Unity) is the title of the musical written by H.H. Prince Badr Bin Abdul Mohsen Bin Abdul Aziz and presented in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on January 24 and 25, 1999. The musical included a 15 minute theatrical scene on Ameen Rihani and his opinion on King Abdul Aziz Al Saud. The role of Ameen Rihani was played by Dr. Bakr Ash-Shaddi, a well known scholar and theater artist in Riyadh and the Saudi Kingdom. The musical was aired on all Saudi TV channels for two consecutive days, and more than one million people watched it in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.



Conference Papers on Rihani


A conference on The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: 100 Years was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on January 24-28, 1999, and attracted an audience of around 1500 scholars and writers from sixty countries around the world. The conference, which gave tribute to King Abdul Aziz, founder of modern Saudi Arabia, dedicated several papers to Ameen Rihani. The Rihani family was invited to attend this conference and was represented by Dr. Ameen Albert Rihani, nephew of Ameen Rihani. Among the presented papers were:

  1. King Abdul Aziz as Depicted in the Writings of Ameen Rihani, Professor Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al-Ghathami, King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 15 pages.
  2. King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud and Ameen Rihani, Some Notes on Al-Rihani’s Diplomacy, Dr. Geoffrey Nash, University of Qatar, Qatar, 22 pages.
  3. Arabia Through the Eyes of Arab Travelers During the Days of King Abdul Aziz, Dr. Mansour Bin Ibrahim Al-Hazimi, King Faisal University, Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 40 pages.
  4. Travels to the Arabian Peninsula During the Reign of King Abdul Aziz, Dr. Fadya Bint Saud Al-Saleh, College of Education, General Presidency for Girls Education, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 37 pages.
Discussions on these papers took place among scholars, writers and university professors from Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.



Rihani in the Saudi Media


On January 27 and 28, 1999, Saudi newspapers and centenary publications published summaries of the conference papers on Rihani and his writings on King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud. Among these newspapers are Al-Jazeera and Ar-Riyadh in Riyadh City, and Arab News and ‘Ukaz in Jeddah City. Radio and TV stations in the Kingdom covered these events with commentaries on the role of Rihani and his relations with King Abdul Aziz.



A.R.O. Releases New Statistical Data


February 5, 1999 - Washington, DC, U.S.A.: The Ameen Rihani Organization (ARO) recently released new statistics regarding the Ameen Rihani Home Page on the World Wide Web. Since its going online in April 1997, the Ameen Rihani Home Page has enjoyed an overwhelming interest in readership from many countries of the world. In less than two years, nearly 30,000 visitors from over 90 countries have viewed the page. The 10 countries with the highest readership, in order of visitors, were:
